In an interview with 78SportsTV, Wilder discussed his level of fitness this year and revealed that he hasn’t trained in a month.
“I been ready, although I haven’t been training for probably a month or whatever.
But you gotta look at the several months that I was training and fights was falling through and we didn’t get what we wanted so my body has been through all types of training camps that prepare me for this particular moment.”
He then caveated that with not wanting to miss out on the chance of a big fight.
“So if you can’t rise to the call of duty at short notice you’re going to miss out. And I don’t want to miss out on any opportunity because it’s already easy for me to miss out on those because of what I’ve been doing. I’d be unified champion already if these guys gave me the opportunity but none of the guys ever want to give me that opportunity.”
Following his own bout with Joseph Parker the following month Deontay Wilder will be watching Anthony Joshua’s matchup with Otto Wallin. After a break of more than a year the American fights again this time against Joseph Parker Tyson Fury’s training partner and former WBO World Champion.
The British fighter’s third fight of the year following his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in 2022 is Joshua vs Wallin.
While “AJ” is still a major draw in the heavyweight class fans are now more interested in watching how he fights than they are in seeing spectacular knockouts.
